This May, Tobacco Free Lancaster County is once again teaming up with the Mental Health Association of Nebraska and the Lancaster County Prevention Coalition (Talk Heart 2 Heart) for the third year of the #GreenLightProjectNE—our local effort to light up our community in vibrant green and bring mental health awareness to the forefront.

Mental health challenges affect more people than you might think—one in five Americans will experience a mental health condition this year, and nearly half of us will face one at some point in our lives. Despite how common these experiences are, stigma, shame, and misinformation still keep too many from seeking help.

Our campaign is about spreading hope, normalizing conversations about mental health, and rallying support for those who are navigating mental illness or trying to quit tobacco. Research shows that while some people turn to tobacco or nicotine to cope, this can actually increase stress and worsen symptoms of anxiety and depression over time. Quitting tobacco is a powerful step toward better mental health.

Here’s how you can take part:

Light up your home or business green for the month of May to show your support.
Display a yard sign to help amplify the message (available in English and Spanish).
Share the message on social media using the hashtag #GreenLightProjectNE.

Starting April 21, you can pick up free green light bulbs and yard signs at the new Mental Health Association of Nebraska Lincoln office:
📍 1500 South 70th Street, Suite 201, Lincoln, NE
(Supplies are limited—don’t wait too long!)

All month long, all the partner organizations will be sharing mental health education, resources, and support on social media. Help us spread the word by following along and sharing posts that matter to you.
